Welcome

My husband's and my grandmother's at our wedding reception August 2012. They range in age from 66-85.
I have created this blog as part of a college course that I am taking about aging. In the course we have the opportunity to explore human aging as it applies to social life, family, health, community, finances, etc.

For the assignment we are told to pick three chapters from our textbook and explore the topics deeper. Since I am planning on entering nursing school after finishing my degree in sociology then I have chosen to focus my blog on aging as it relates to health and well being and about end of life living arrangements. As well, I decided to include a section for those that are in charge of the care giving for older people. The book that we have used for this course is called "Social Gerontology" and is by Nancy R Hooyman and H. Asuman Kiyak.

Above is a music video for the song "Remember When" by Alan Jackson. It's more about an aging couple than about aging in general. However, it seems appropriate to me since we spend more of our lives with a spouse or partner than without. I especially like that the lyrics tell of a life journey and that is why I chose to include it here.

Feel free to look around and learn information that may be of great help to yourself. I believe that the blog applies to us all at all stages in our life. It applies to me as an early twenty-something student as I plan and prepare for old age. It will apply when I am forty and need to help care for my dad. And it will of course apply when I myself enter into old age.
